Sage Restaurant Concepts Increased Online Visitors and Saved Money with BentoBox
Sage Restaurant Concepts operates 30 restaurants and bars across the country
Hospitality groups are looking for online solutions that streamline their operations and create a cohesive brand presence and unified experience for online visitors. Sage Restaurant Concepts, part of the larger Sage Hospitality Group, includes a portfolio of 30 independent restaurants around the nation including Kachina Cantina, Poka Lola Social Club and Urban Farmer Steakhouse. We spoke with Heather Dratler, VP of Marketing and Brand Integrity, to learn firsthand about how they found BentoBox and the successes that have come as a result.
“Overall, we could not have gone through COVID-19 without our BentoBox websites, because we were constantly pivoting and would have been way behind the ball on updating current information, hours, menus, online offerings — all of it.”
Before BentoBox: Outdated Websites and No Way to Easily Manage Them
When Heather started at Sage Restaurant Concepts, she noticed that the portfolio of restaurants had websites, but they needed updating. “A big goal for us in 2020 was improving our digital experiences but we had a lot of pain points. All of our websites were fairly outdated at the time.”

She adds, “They were all on WordPress and they were done in a way that we could not update a lot of the details on our site without contacting the developer. Our restaurant-level employees really couldn't update anything. Ultimately, it just didn't feel like an accurate representation of our brands.”
Then, Heather discovered BentoBox. “BentoBox represented an opportunity to make our websites modern, beautiful and have the ability to easily control them -- even from the property level.”
The Search For an All-In-One Solution
While their goal was to revamp their online presence, the COVID-19 pandemic added one big challenge: budget. “We just didn't have money at the time. Our previous provider had been charging our properties about $600 a month for website hosting, maintenance and the updates that they made.”

It wasn’t just websites that the restaurant group needed. As restaurants quickly pivoted to delivery due to shutdowns stemming from the pandemic, online ordering became crucial to their survival.
“We had no direct online ordering through our websites. Each restaurant was on Doordash or Grubhub or other third-parties. It became clear very quickly that we were going to need a way to sell online directly through our websites.”
With BentoBox, the restaurant group would be able to modernize their restaurant’s websites, offer direct online ordering for guests, and best of all, be able to edit and manage it all in one place.
After BentoBox: The Results Were Clear
After switching to BentoBox, Sage Restaurant Concepts launched more than 18 websites in 2020. The results were clear. “Our website traffic has gone up across our websites and we’ve saved almost $4,000 per website over the course of the year just by switching to BentoBox. That's just in hosting fees.”
The Results: BentoBox helped Sage Restaurant Concepts grow online visitors, save money and hours managing the website
As restaurants have all had to adapt their operations due to COVID-19, having an easy-to-manage website was crucial to quickly update guests on everything happening at the restaurant.
Heather agrees, “Overall, we could not have gone through COVID-19 without our BentoBox websites, because we were constantly pivoting and would have been way behind the ball on updating current information, hours, menus, online offerings — all of it. It’s given us the ability to take our digital guest experience to the next level.”
